Cholanaikkans, Kurumbas, Kattunaikans, Kadars and Koragas are the five primitive tribal groups in Kerala and are in dimishing number. The last few families of Kurichiyad, a remote settlement inside the core area of the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and other Tribal settlements to be relocated by the Govt.

Changala Maram or the Chain Tree at Lakkidi will spike your curiosity. It is a haunted Ficus tree with a huge chain that has sunk deep in the Trunk. It is the chained spirit of an ancient Tribal Chief of the Paniya Tribe Karinthandan. What's more! A movie is being made on this story directed by a woman from the tribes. The Wayanad wildlife sanctuary is a treasure you cant get enough of. Its made of four ranges Sulthan Banthery, Muthanga, Tholpetty and Kurichiat. Its also part of the Nilgiri Biosphere. Historians believe that human life existed here ten centuries before Christ. It is under consideration as a World Heritage Site.
Valliyoorkkavu Temple is a temple dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy. She is believed to be self-manifested and there is a festival everyyear in the month of March that lasts for 14 days. The festival dates for 2019 are 15th March till 28th March. The final day of the festival has a lot of participation from the Locals and folk dances and art forms are presented.
